Timely Assistance becomes the Saviour!

It was eleven in the night the other day. My friend Benjamin and I were driving back to his home in Bridgetown. During the course of our journey,we touched upon many topics of conversation. However, it was when we dodged a speeding truck that came charging towards us menacingly from the opposite direction and almost knocked us off the road that we got really shaken up!  As we gathered our thoughts together, Benjamin remarked. “We got saved by a whisker, man!”. Yes we were lucky that time. As we resumed our drive the conversation veered around the alarming increase in traffic and rampant rise road accidents of late. It has even been reported that drinking and driving is not illegal in Barbados either. No wonder the rise in accidents!
We drove into a lonely stretch of road which was barely lit. No sooner had we got over the shock of the jolt about twenty minutes ago than  a twenty wheeler from the right stormed in and tossed our cadillac like a match box. A few cartwheels of the car made our heads spin all the more.

Thankfully, the long frontier which got smashed completely and the side door bore the brunt of the battering! While both of us sustained severe injuries.  Benjamin, upon extricating himself from the damaged car realised that he had a broken femur as well. As he lay writhing in agony, he shouted at me barking out to call a particular phone number.
I looked around myself and was faced with some facts. It was in the dead of the night. A deserted stretch, We just met with an accident even after just escaping one. Were we still alive? Well thankfully yes. We were critically injured as well. Under such circumstance, whom to contact and how to seek help? Before more questions could hound me, I took the card out  from his pocket. It read Automate - Free Road Assistance 24*7 insurance.
I dialled the number and informed the person on the other end of the line about our condition. While Benjamin and I  waited with bated breath for help to arrive, we wondered how soon could they hunt  us out. Every minute mattered then  as we both were losing blood.
It was about an hour when Benjamin spoke of the wise decision he had taken in getting his car insured.Hardly did we mention of help when  we saw an ambulance flashing it’s rotating beam and blaring it’s siren as it marched  towards us.
Upon it’s arrival, Benjamin even though not quite in a state to speak , said,”Thanks man, I knew  I could always count on you guys!” . He was reassured by the insurance company people who were present there that he needn't exert himself. Moreover he need not worry about the damage to his car either. They were the people from his car insurance company who had arranged for the ambulance with the bare minimum details I had provided  them with.
Today after six months, Benjamin  walks with a crutch. Even as he limps, he can’t get his eyes off his shining beauty. He looks at his cadillac restored by the insurance company and just sighs, looking at his foot, wondering when he’ll make it behind the wheel again !
